08 October 2013: Yellowwood Lake was lowered in 2011 to repair the concrete spillway at the south end of the lake. Water now flows freely over the steps of the dam to keep the water at level.
Yellowwood State Forest was created on leased federal land in 1940. It was later (1956) deeded to the state of Indiana. More than 2000 vacant and eroded acres were planted with pine, black locust, black walnut, and red and white oak. Yellowwood Lake is 133 acres and about 30 feet deep.
