12 February 2015: 2015 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE: On display at the 107th annual Chicago Auto Show, Feb.14-22, 2015, is the Volkswagen Beetle, the modern interpretation of an icon. New for 2015 are the Beetle Classic model and a new turbodiesel engine. The Beetle Classic is a limited-edition model that builds off the base Beetle and adds features such as a unique seat fabric, front lumbar supports, a navigation system, and a six-speed automatic transmission. Seventeen-inch wheels are available. The new 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine replaces the outgoing 2.0-liter TDI, and it makes 10 more horsepower, bumping the number up to 150. When equipped with the available six-speed DSG automatic, the diesel’s highway fuel economy number goes from 39 mpg to 41 mpg. The retro-influenced Beetle remains available as a hardtop or convertible, and in addition to the turbodiesel it offers a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that mates to either a five-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that mates to a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic. The 1.8-liter engine makes 170 horsepower and the 2.0-liter engine produces 210 horsepower, and it powers the sporty R-Line trim. The 1.8 achieves 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway with the manual and 25/33 with the automatic, while the 2.0-liter achieves 24/30 with the DSG automatic and 23/31 with the six-speed manual. The diesel can get 31 mpg city/41 mpg highway with the manual, in addition to the 41 mpg highway from the automatic.

First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent. The 2015 show marks the 107th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. It has been presented by the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA) since 1935. It is held at McCormick Place, Chicago Illinois
