8th seed and Tournament Host, Illinois State University Redbirds, played spoiler and best the #1, #2 & #4 ranked teams to win the Missouri Valley Confernce Hoops in the Heartland Tournament. In the final game today, the Redbirds bested the #2 seeded Indiana State University Sycamores by 2 points with a .8 second to go buzzer beater jump shot from the middle of the lane. The Redbirds get an automatic birth to the NCAA Tournament. The Redbirds last played in the NCAA Tournament in 1989. Hoops in the Heartland was held at Redbird Arena, Illinois State University, Normal IL
